Hosted by CHINACOAT Organizer and in collaboration with DD Technology Forum, UK, the 10th CHINACOAT Conference successfully came to an end on November 27, 2012 at Ramada Plaza Guangzhou. During this 2-day event, an impressive array of speakers across the globe carried through on the theme “HIGH GRADE COATINGS • High Solids • High Build • High Tech”, provoking close to 100 delegates to expand their understanding and discuss industry challenges facing ahead.
A total of 12 technical papers were delivered, including 2 keynote papers presented on the first day of the Conference. Professor Jamil Baghdachi of Coatings Research Institute, Eastern Michigan University, USA, provided a discourse of technology, properties and application of the high performance and high valued coatings, such as high temperature resistant polymeric coatings, super high solids liquid coatings, biologically active and corrosion sensing coatings. Professor Wenfang Shi of University of Science and Technology of China / RadTech China, introduced the basic concept on the energy curing technology and its latest progress of applications in various industrial sectors. Other highlights included the presentations given by Dr. Michael Berkei of Altana and Mr. Ralf Knischka of BASF SE. Michael spoke of inorganic-organic hybrid nanoparticles and their mechanical and optical properties, while Ralf shared the recent developments using nitroxyl-mediated polymerisation resulting in high-performance dispersing agents for demanding applications.
Majority of the audience came from mainland China (69%) but there were delegates from Australia, Belgium, Germany, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, South Africa, Thailand, UK and USA, etc. Most attendees commented that they benefited tremendously by acquiring helpful knowledge and developing a network of contacts.
Coatings industry is about to enter a new technological era where high material efficiency will come together with economy of natural resources and minimisation of industrial impacts on the environment. Nanotechnology and biotechnology provide the functional tools for industry to develop processes that are eco-efficient and products that are profitable and environmental friendly. The next 11th CHINACOAT Conference will be held right before CHINACOAT2013 Shanghai on November 18-19, 2013 with the theme of “Nano & Bio Technology in Coatings and Finishing”.
