Hosted by the organizers of CHINACOAT and in collaboration with DD Technology Forum, UK, the 13th CHINACOAT Conference successfully held on November 16-17 at Renaissance Shanghai Pudong Hotel. During this 2-day event, an impressive array of speakers across the globe carried through on the theme 'WOOD COATINGS – Broadening Sustainable Formulation Options', provoking about 60 delegates to expand their understanding on the selection of appropriate wood coating systems to deliver long term performances, in both interior and exterior situations. A total of 10 technical papers were delivered, including 2 keynote papers, 'The Global Market for Industrial Wood Coatings' presented by Mr. Louis McCulloch of James Consulting, UK, and 'Flame Retardant Technology: A Critical Look' presented by Dr. Swaraj Paul of PPPolymer, Sweden. Mr. McCulloch addressed wood coatings from a market standpoint, aiming to identify and quantify the coatings sectors where technology has the best opportunities for future penetration. While Dr. Paul has reviewed the basic mechanism controlling the fire resistance behaviour of polymers with emphasis on the intumescent systems, and introduced the halogen based FR and their environmental impacts.

Majority of the audience came from mainland China (67%), while others from Australia, Germany, India, Indonesia, Israel, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, Luxemburg, Sweden, Taiwan Region, UK and USA. Our survey findings reflected that 74% of the delegates attended the Conference for the first time. 79% satisfied with the overall arrangement, while 55% agreed that the Conference helped them to learn the latest application & technological development of Wood Coatings.
