This presentation will focus on trends and opportunities
identification for Coatings industries and methodologies for
integrating sustainable development criteria across the product
life cycle, from conception through to recycling and the waste
management phase. Trends: Ecological, Social, Economic and
Regulations (Chemicals, paint, construction product, Indoor Air
Quality, GHS).
Methodologies: Green Chemistry, Carbon FootPrint, Ecological
FootPrint, Environmental Gap Analysis, Sustainable Design, Life
Cycle Inventory & Assessment. Theresulting metrics allow a
quantification of an individual product's overall eco-impact,
carbon footprint and VOC emissions as well as reductions in
energy & raw material consumption. We demonstrate that the
sustainable development approach is a holistic,
cross-disciplinary approach, necessarily involving functions
across the organisation. It covers the whole value chain, and
allows for the mapping of the carbon footprint of individual
products, as well as for the identification of financial,
operational and carbonsaving opportunities. |

Dr. Houshang Kheradmand |
Houshang received his masters in chemistry in 1976, a doctorate
in petro-chemistry in 1983 from ULP "Louis Pasteur University
-Strasbourg", followed by a 2nd doctorate in polymer sciences in
1987 from Strasbourg Polymer Research Center and ULP.
Since 1987 Houshang has worked in different Rohm and Haas and
Dow Chemicals European organization such as: R&D laboratory
group leader, plant quality lab manager, European raw materials
quality coordinator, European PCM product stewardship &
sustainable development manger and European Technology Awareness
and Innovation Manager of Dow Coating Materials. In 2004, he
developed the Sustainable Design methodology for Paint and
Coatings business; a technical approach and tool for internal
sustainable development management.
